Dear friends and supporters,
We need your help!
The year 2020 started off with robust plans for lectures, activities, and wedding rentals. Then the pandemic changed everything.
Like most organizations, the Loring Greenough House was forced to cancel all indoor events as well as our popular Thursdays on the Lawn, and all of our wedding bookings. Our income dwindled as we struggled to find new ways to serve and educate our community.
Our board and volunteers rose to the occasion by dreaming up a number of innovative activities: Outdoor exercise classes on the lawn; a series of short, creative videos that featured the house and its history; articles about earlier times, which filled our newsletter; an outdoor trivia event, which was a big hit; and even a few mini-weddings that brightened the lawn.
We also accomplished a pair of important objectives. Thanks to a grant from the Henderson Foundation, we replaced the steps and pavers by the North Door and started work on screening the fence by Curtis Hall.
But the sad reality is that the cost to maintain the historic Loring Greenough House far exceeded our income this year.
