As 2022 comes to a close we reflect on our accomplishments as well as our hopes and plans for 2023.
Thursdays on the Lawn returned, after a two year hiatus. The lawn was again filled with families, friends, children and dogs, all enjoying the beautiful grounds. Other outdoor activities included Friday Night at the Movies, Gardening Together, and Exercise classes. We also hosted the graduation ceremony of the Mission Hill School, JP Open Studios and Porchfest.
Currently we are in the midst of two major projects:
- Digitizing our collections, including minutes of the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club, that go back over a hundred years. Enclosed is a sample which you will soon be able to read online.
- Repairing and restoring the windows of the house, thanks to a CPA grant.
As I write this, Joe Bagley, City Archaeologist, is digging in the basement of the Ell hoping to uncover artifacts that tell stories about the LGH.
Plans for 2023 include:
- Restoration of the main staircase and north door transom
- Redecoration of the Edwardian bedroom and southeast hallway
Our volunteers freely give many hours of time to maintain the house and produce programs. But, we can’t manage month to month without your contributions to help carry out our plans!
