Chapter and Verse Literary Reading, presenting Anne Champion, Steven Cramer, and Jim Lafond Lewis

Friday, October 11, 2013 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$5.00

CHAPTER AND VERSE LITERARY READING SERIES

Readings, featuring an ever-changing array of well-known poets and writers, are followed by a reception, including refreshments and an opportunity to meet and talk with the readers, buy their books, and have them signed.

Presenting:

Anne Champion is the author of Reluctant Mistress (Gold Wake Press, 2013). Her poems have appeared in Verse Daily, The Comstock Review, Cider Press Review, The Aurorean and many other journals. She was a recipient of the Academy of American Poet’s Prize and has been a Pushcart Prize nominee, a St. Botoph Emerging Writer’s Grant nominee and a Squaw Valley Community of Writers Poetry Workshop participant. Anne holds an MFA from Emerson College where she teaches writing and literature and serves as a poetry reader for Ploughshares.

Steven Cramer is the author of five poetry collections: Clangings (Sarabande Books, 2012), The Eye that Desires to Look Upward (1987), The World Book (1992), Dialogue for the Left and Right Hand (1997), and Goodbye to the Orchard (Sarabande, 2004), which won the 2005 Sheila Motton Prize from the New England Poetry Club and was named a 2005 Honor Book in Poetry by the Massachusetts Center for the Book. Recipient of fellowships from the Massachusetts Artists Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, he directs the Low-Residency MFA Program in Creative Writing at Lesley University in Cambridge, named by Poets & Writers as one of the top ten low-residency MFA programs in the country.

Jim Lafond Lewis lives in Hyde Park, but he routinely imagines himself at the Pond. He also imagines the Pond in Vermont, so his claim to Jamaica Pond status is imaginary at best. On the other hand, he is a poet, at least he imagines himself a poet and writes, although weirdly, at every opportunity to prove to himself that he has an imagination. Some people are fooled. He used to own a restaurant, but that has been relegated entirely to memory, although he goes on dreaming about it. Its former reality is a testament to thirty years being the blink of an eye.

Suggested donation $5.00 or whatever you can afford. (We mean this. We would rather have you than your money.) Free refreshments are served.

Parking Information: The Loring-Greenough House has a parking lot, but four spaces are reserved for ZIP Cars. Please respect these spaces, and also please try not to park on the grass. There is ample nonrestricted street parking and a large, free public parking lot off Centre Street between Burroughs and Thomas Streets just a block from the Loring-Greenough House.
