Chapter and Verse Literary Reading

Friday, February 7, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Readings, featuring an ever-changing array of well-known poets and writers, are followed by a reception, including refreshments and an opportunity to meet and talk with the readers, buy their books, and have them signed.

Readings:

John M. Anderson teaches at Boston College and is the husband of the visual artist Kathrine Douthit. John’s poetry has appeared in Poetry Daily, Verse Daily, Crazyhorse, The Antioch Review and other journals. For the last three years he’s been writing a single sequence of poems based on a single issue of The New Yorker; eleven of these have been published in The Seattle Review.

Jennifer Barber is the author of Given Away and Rigging the Wind, both from Kore Press, and Vendaval in Take Three: 3 (Graywolf Press). She is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, a St. Botolph Grant, a Heinrich Boll Cottage residency, and the Anna Davidson Rosenberg Award. Recent poems have appeared in Orion, Cerise Press, the New Yorker, the Harvard Divinity Bulletin, and the Gettysburg Review. She teaches at Suffolk University and is founding and current editor of the literary journal Salamander, currently celebrating its 20th year.

Kevin Gallagher is a poet and editor living in Belmont, MA. He currently edits the spoKe annual, a magazine of poetry and poetics. He is the author of three collection of poetry, Gringo Guadalupe, Looking for Lake Texcoco, and Isolate Flecks. From 2003 to 2012 he was a guest editor of Jacket and Jacket2 magazines. From 1992 to 2003 he was a co-editor of compost magazine in Jamaica Plain.

Exhibiting:

Kathrine Douthit has been an oil painter for 20 years. She has taken part in J.P. Open Studios and won Best Painting in 2008 at the Northeast Prize Show held by the Cambridge Artists Association. But for the past five years, she has begun experimenting with installation, an art form that merges more traditional fine art media with something like stage sets. For Chapter and Verse, she will create an installation inspired by her husband John M. Anderson’s poetry.

Suggested donation: $5.00 or whatever you can afford. (We mean this. We would rather have you than your money.) Free refreshments are served.
Parking Information: The Loring-Greenough House has a parking lot, but four spaces are reserved for ZIP Cars. Please respect these spaces, and also please try not to park on the grass.
