FYI Night: Jamaica Plain’s Historic Walter Street Burying Ground

Tuesday, November 19, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Did you know there was once a graveyard for Revolutionary War soldiers on the grounds of the Loring-Greenough House? Join us Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. for our first FYI talk of the Fall season. Chris Child of the New England Historic Genealogical Society will be talking about the Walter Street Burying Ground, an oft-overlooked part of Jamaica Plain history.

Originally the graveyard of the Second Parish Church in Roxbury, the Walter Street Burying Ground became the repository of bodily remains found in 1867 during construction in the neighborhood around the Loring-Greenough House. Mr. Child’s talk will focus on who is buried at the Walter Street Burial Ground, what graves have survived the test of time, and what is still unknown about the site.

Refreshments will be served after the talk.

Chris Child is Genealogist of Newbury Street Press at the New England Historic Genealogical Society. He is co-author of The Descendants of Judge John Lowell of Newburyport, Massachusetts (2011), and co-editor of The Ancestry of Catherine Middleton (2011). Mr. Child is an expert in archival research and local history.

This event is free for JPTC members; suggested donation of $5.00 for non-members.
