“Sunday Afternoon at the ‘Greenough House” Parlor Concerts,

Mignarda, American lute song duo Ron Andrico, lute, and Donna Stewart, mezzo-soprano, return to the Sunday Parlor Concert Series at the Loring Greenough House, on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 3:00 p.m., at the historic Loring-Greenough House, 12 South Street, Jamaica Plain MA with “A Pilgrimes Solace”, a program of the music of John Dowland as the centerpiece; this program probes the perfect marriage of poetry and music – with texts both light and dark – from the Golden Age of English lute song. Music by John Dowland, John Danyel, Thomas Campion, Thomas Morley, Robert Jones and others.
America’s premiere professional lute song duo, Mignarda specializes in thoughtful programming illuminating the vibrant mingling of renaissance music and poetry. Noted for awakening modern audiences to an appreciation for historical music, their work encompasses concertizing, teaching and recording, with ten critically-acclaimed CDs. Mignarda’s publications include a series of 12 music editions, scholarly articles, reviews and the internationally-popular blog, Unquiet Thoughts. The couple met in a schola providing liturgical music for the Latin Tridentine Mass, and they continue their dedication to historical sacred and secular music. The Sunday Afternoon at the ‘Greenough House series recreates the atmosphere of 18th and 19th century “musical afternoons” in the 1760 Loring-Greenough House, twice monthly, October to May. Built in 1760, the Loring-Greenough House, a local landmark listed on the Massachusetts and National Registers of Historic Places, is located at 12 South Street (at the Civil War Monument) in Jamaica Plain, MA. It is owned and managed by the non-profit Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club, Inc. as a historic house museum and site for art and music presentations. The Loring-Greenough House is wheelchair accessible. November 2, 2014: David Owens, D’Anna Fortunato. Premier. chamber song group, At the Landing — Verses from a Poet’s Life, which is scored for voice, flute, viola and harp.
November 16, 2014: Balint Karosi: harpsichord, recorder and baroque flute concert with Héloise Dégrugillier
December 7, 2014: Brian Friedland: Jazz on the forte piano, with a holiday flavor.Time: 3:00. Donation: $15 ($10 members, students, seniors).
