The Loring Greenough House will celebrate the completion of our Native Plant Border with a celebration on May 10th, 2025.
The bed along the south-facing border contains a robust variety of plants that are native to the eastern half of the US, bringing color, visual interest, and seasonal changes to an existing plant bed. Mostly shade-loving, this mix of perennials and shrubs will help the public identify and become more familiar with native plants that play an important ecological role in our community.
This project is made possible in part by generous donations from plant lovers and garden appreciators. Please consider supporting our efforts to nurture and grow native plants in our corner of Jamaica Plain.

Native plants are beneficial because they are low-maintenance, require less water, and provide habitat for birds and beneficial insects. Bleeding heart, Jacob’s ladder, and goldenrod are just a few of the many perennials that will greet all creatures, great and small, throughout the seasons. Recently added to the border are a few trees – the beautiful Fringe tree and three Arborvitaes. Among the shrubs are Aronia, Clethra and Sweetspire.
Donate today to secure your invitation to our special unveiling on May 10th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
Admire the new garden the gather with us in the parlor to enjoy a presentation from Shoma Haque on the importance of native plants followed by refreshments.
